A Virgin Australia flight attendant has lifted the lid on the strict grooming requirements cabin crew must abide by to look immaculate when travelling in the air.
Chelsea Dorricott, from Sydney, made a TikTok video explaining how airline employees are not allowed to have visible facial piercings or jewellery on their lips, nose or eyebrows.
“As cabin crew, we do have a set of grooming requirements that we do need to adhere to,” Chelsea said in a TikTok video.
“I’m sure every airline will have a slightly different version of this.
“For mine specifically, we can’t have any facial piercings, so that’s like lip, nose, eyebrow – literally anything on your face is a big no-no.”
However, earrings are permitted – but only a simple stud or pearl in each lobe.
“You can have ear piercings, but they’re meant to be either double studs or just one simple, like, pearl or just one in each side,” Chelsea explained.
“If you do have two in each lobe, it does need to be two of the exact same and they have a specific requirement on what those two or one can be.
“You definitely can’t have any cartilage piercings either. So I do take that out for work and then with the (earring) hoops too, these aren’t allowed either.
“So I will take these out for work and I replace them with a simple gold stud.”
Secret scarf feature
Earlier this year, Brodie Capron, a former Virgin Australia cabin crew member, revealed the “secret” purple scarf feature many passengers never knew existed.
In one of her videos, one follower noticed Brodie’s scarf was a clip on, saying: “I never knew the scarf was a button? I thought it was tied?”
Brodie responded: “It’s a safety thing, in case of emergencies we won’t get stuck or if someone tries to grab it, we can move away.
“The ties that our male crew wear are also clip-on, rather than a normal tie, for the same reason.”
